BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The West Virginia State University volleyball program capped off a stellar season with multiple top honors in the 2024 All-Mountain East Conference (MEC) awards. Highlighting the accolades are Kiersten Eggleton, named the MEC Player of the Year, and Avery Moore, who earned MEC Coach of the Year honors in her first season at the helm.
WVSU placed six players on the All-MEC teams, including two on the First Team. These recognitions reflect a dominant season for the Yellow Jackets, who showcased both individual brilliance and collective strength.
First Team All-MEC:
- Kiersten Eggleton (Graduate; Setter; St. Albans, W.Va.) – Eggleton had an incredible season leading the Yellow Jackets' offense with 941 assists, ranking second in the MEC. She also contributed 62 kills, 28 service aces (second on the team), 237 digs (second on the team), and 33 total blocks, demonstrating her all-around impact.
- Hannah Steele (Senior; Outside Hitter; Pearisburg, Va.) – Steele was the team's offensive powerhouse, leading WVSU with 322 kills, while adding 12 service aces, 209 digs (third on the team), and 36 total blocks to round out her stellar senior campaign.
Second Team All-MEC:
- Valencia Wilder (Sophomore; Middle Blocker; Blacklick, Ohio) – Wilder was a defensive force, leading the team with 97 total blocks, including a team-best 24 solo blocks, while also contributing 182 kills, 14 service aces, and 50 digs.
- Maureen Mathews (Senior; Outside Hitter; St. Louis, Mo.) – Mathews was a consistent offensive threat, ranking second on the team with 298 kills, while adding 106 digs and 54 total blocks.
- Morgan Caba (Senior; Libero; Mount Sterling, Ky.) – Caba anchored the defense with a team-high 344 digs and contributed offensively with 53 service aces (leading the team) and 76 assists.
- Baby Moleni (Senior; Right Side; West Valley, Utah) – Moleni was a key offensive contributor with 204 kills, while adding 48 total blocks and 41 digs to round out her all-around performance.
Head Coach Avery Moore reflected on the team's success, stating, "This season has been an incredible journey. The individual honors our players have earned are a direct result of their hard work, dedication, and commitment to each other. I'm so proud of Kiersten for being named Player of the Year—it's a well-deserved recognition for her leadership and impact on the court. I'm honored to have the opportunity to lead this team and excited about the future of WVSU volleyball."
As the Yellow Jackets celebrate their individual and team achievements, they look forward to building on this season's momentum, starting with the Mountain East Tournament which starts on Thursday, Nov. 21. The Yellow Jackets will face Frostburg State in the quarterfinal round at 5 p.m.
