BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The Mountain East Conference office announced on Monday that quarterback Isaiah Bess and defensive back Nick Blake were both named Players of the Week for football, presented by The Health Plan, for their outstanding performances in the victory against Fairmont State on Saturday.

Isaiah Bess was named co-offensive player of the week for football. The junior signal caller for the Yellow Jackets helped to orchestrate an improbable 35 point quarter for West Virginia State to rally and upend Fairmont State, going 26-for-38 passing with 396 yards and two passing touchdowns including a 70 yard reception that set up a short Felder rushing touchdown to bring State to within 10 points with just over three minutes to play.

Nick Blake was named as the defensive player of the week. Blake's fourth quarter pick-six when State was up by just four points helped seal the WVSU comeback and prevent Fairmont State from being able to orchestrate a comeback of their own in the waning moments of the game. Blake also contributed three tackles, including a TFL of five yards.

WVSU will host Concord on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium.
