BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The West Virginia State University men's and women's tennis teams competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region Division II Championship at Bloomsburg University from Sept. 14-17. Both teams saw success in advancing to later rounds, especially in doubles play.

Women's Singles

• Amanda Menendez Thomasson defeated Omolade Aderemi (6-1, 6-2) of West Virginia Wesleyan to advance to the round of 32. 

Men's Singles

• Axel Dormann defeated Felix Weber (6-4, 6-3) of West Chester to advance to the round of 32.

Women's Doubles

• Amanda Menendez Thomasson and Tuva Wallin advanced to the semifinals before being knocked out by a doubles pairing from IUP. Thomasson and Wallin won their matches 6-3, 7-5, 6-1 in that order on the way to the semifinals. They knocked out Sofiia Krasikova and Filippa Larsson of Charleston in the quarterfinals.
• Julia Daszkiewicz and Daniela Cruzadi Fretel advanced to the round of 16 with a 6-4 win over a doubles pairing from Slippery Rock.

Men's Doubles

• Axel Dormann and Johan Karlsson advanced to the quarterfinals with wins in the round of 32 and round of 16. They defeated a doubles pair from Mercyhurst, 6-4, before defeating a doubles pair from Millersville, 6-4.

Both the women's and men's tennis teams are scheduled to play in Fairmont State's invitational tournament beginning on Sept. 30 next.
