Fifty-eight Yellow Jackets named on MEC Winter/Spring Academic Awards list

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference released its All-Academic Team and Commissioner's Honor Roll for winter and spring sports during the 2022-23 academic year on Thursday afternoon. Fifty-eight student-athletes from West Virginia State University competing in the sports of acrobatics & tumbling, baseball, men's basketball, men's tennis, softball, women's basketball, and women's tennis earned academic honors from the MEC.

To be a member of the All-MEC Academic Team, the student-athlete must be a member of the active roster and have a grade-point average of 3.70-4.00 in the semester of their sports championship season. To qualify for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a member of the active roster and post a grade-point average between 3.25-3.69 in the semester of their championship season.

There were a total of 32 Yellow Jackets that were placed on the All-MEC Academic Team for their respective sports. Another 26 of State's student-athletes were named on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.  

A league record 1,380 student-athletes were honored by the MEC for their work in the classroom and performance in competition, including 766 who earned All-MEC Academic Team honors (3.70 GPA or higher) in the sports included.
