INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – West Virginia State University Athletic Director Nate Burton has been appointed to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee as one of eight governing members. His post will begin on Sept. 1, 2023 and continue through Aug. 31, 2027.

"I am truly honored and humbled to be asked to serve on this prestigious committee," remarked Burton. "I look forward to working with my fellow committee members as well as representing West Virginia State University and the Mountain East Conference at the national level."

Division II sport committees conduct their respective Division II championship and develop policies and procedures to administer the championship in an efficient and orderly manner. Sport committees report directly to the Championships Committee, which helps direct and approve recommendations or policies and procedures from the sport committees. Sport committee members also chair regional advisory committees (RACs), oversee selections to national championships and serve as the NCAA representative during preliminary-round competition and championship finals.

Burton will add value to the NCAA DII Men's Basketball Committee through his experience as a former student-athlete and current administrator. He was a four-year starter on the men's basketball team at Washington & Jefferson College where he won an ECAC Division III Southern regional championship in 2009. Furthermore, he has served as the Athletic Director at West Virginia State for the past seven years. Burton ushered in a new era for the Athletics Department at WVSU with upgrades to multiple facilities, additions to sport offerings, improvements to branding, increases in competitiveness of teams, and generation of new revenue streams to enhance the student-athlete experience.
