BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Four members of the West Virginia State University women's tennis team earned All-Mountain East Conference honors when the awards were announced on Friday afternoon. Amanda Menendez Thomasson was named First Team All-MEC while Maya Haidari, Chate Malo and Tuva Wallin all received Second Team All-MEC accolades.

Freshman Amanda Menendez Thomasson earned First Team All-MEC honors in her debut season after posting an 8-4 singles record and 7-6 doubles record. She held down the No. 3 singles position for State and won all but one of her matches against conference opponents. She also handled the responsibility of playing at No. 1 doubles with partner Tuva Wallin and came away with a 6-4 victory against Division I Davidson's top pair.

Senior Maya Haidari earned Second Team All-MEC honors for the second straight year. She stepped up to the No. 2 singles position for the Yellow Jackets as well as the No. 2 doubles position this season. Haidari helped her team to a 4-3 victory against Fairmont State late in the season by winning her singles match, 6-3, 6-4.

Graduate student Chante Malo returned this year to earn her third consecutive All-MEC honor. She was named to the First Team last season and the Second Team the year before that. Malo played at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles this season. Malo crucially aided State in winning the doubles point versus Fairmont. Her and partner Emily Moore filled in at the No. 2 position and came out on top, 6-4.

Junior Tuva Wallin earned Second Team All-MEC honors after she was named to the First Team a season ago. She posted a 6-6 record at No. 1 singles and an 8-6 record at No. 1 doubles. She moved up to the No. 1 spot this season and performed well against the top players from each opponent throughout the year.
