WVSU gets swept by Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. – West Virginia State's softball team traveled to Davis & Elkins two days earlier than originally scheduled due to impending weather this weekend and fell to the Senators in six innings in game one, then was edged in a walk-off game two in the bottom of the seventh.

Post-game records
West Virginia State: 13-26, 7-19 MEC
Davis & Elkins: 23-21, 17-9 MEC

Game one: D&E 9, WVSU 0
State was only able to collect five hits in the game, with four of the five hits coming in the fourth and fifth innings. D&E scored three in the first inning on a two-RBI double and an RBI single. A pop-out in the second inning scored a fourth run, a double and RBI ground-out in the fifth put two more runs on the board and three more runs in the sixth ended the game prematurely.

Kasey Murphy fanned three with the start in the circle. All five hits for WVSU were singles. Emma Ruth, Autumn Thompson, Murphy, Addi Dillow, and Kerigan Moore each had a base hit in the game.

Game two: D&E 9, WVSU 7
The game was scoreless through the first two innings. State then put a four-spot on the scoreboard with an Autumn Thompson RBI single and a three-run jack by Murphy, scoring Autumn and Chelsea Thompson. D&E answered with an RBI on WVSU's lone error of the game followed by a sac fly.

D&E scored four more in the fourth inning to take their first lead, 6-4.

Emma Pauley drove in Emele Clark in the top of the fifth to halve the deficit, she then hit her second double of the game, this time a two-RBI double, in the top of the seventh to re-take the lead for State, scoring Clark and Ruth.

The Senators got three straight hits in the bottom of the final frame: a triple, a single and a home run to steal the win.
