INSTITUTE, W.VA. – West Virginia State Baseball fell Wednesday afternoon at Cal Bailey Field, surrendering a 12-0 loss to Lincoln Memorial in a nine-inning affair.
WVSU slips to 14-15 on the season while Lincoln Memorial improves to 22-15.
State managed just three hits on the day- a leadoff single from senior Brett Christian, a single in the seventh from graduate student Austin Martin, and a double from freshman Dante Zamudio in the eighth.
The Railsplitters broke the blank in the third, getting on the board with a solo shot to left field and then adding cushion via a pair of singles and a stolen base.
LMU threatened again the following frame, but a stellar defensive double play from right fielder Michael Stone kept the margin at two.
Lincoln Memorial then added a quartet of runs in the fifth off a pair of walks, a hit-by-pitch, and two doubles, pushing their lead to 6-0.
The Railsplitters scored two more times in the seventh and four more times in the eighth to build their advantage to 12-0.
