Men's Basketball Cruises To Victory Wednesday, 112-87

INSTITUTE, W.VA. – West Virginia State Men's Basketball dominated Wednesday in Walker Convocation Center, eclipsing 100 points for the second time this season as they downed Davis & Elkins 112-87.

State improved to 17-6 on the year and 12-4 in league play, while the Senators slip to 6-17 on the season and 4-13 in the MEC.

Sophomore Noah Jordan tallied his fourth-double double of the year with a team-high 26 points to accompany 11 boards. Graduate student Glen Abram registered 24 points in the contest, including an impressive 6-for-10 from the arc. Sophomore Anthony Pittman posted 14 points, while fellow grad student Jeremiah Moore rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11.

112 points is the most scored by State since their 2021 season opener last January, when they put up 114 in a loss to Glenville State.

A trey from Abram gifted State with an early eight-point advantage, up 12-4 four minutes into the half.

State continued to build onto their lead, as a three-pointer from Jenkins followed by an Ernest Jones jumper put the Yellow Jackets up 22-14 with 13:09 left in the half.

A minute scoring run found State with seven-straight points, increasing their advantage to 31-16 as they reached the halfway point of the frame.

A 7-0 run for WVSU that featured five points from Abram widened State's gap to nearly 20 points at 49-31 with a little over three minutes remaining in the half.

The Yellow Jackets officially reached a 20-point advantage as the second half opened after a Jordan three pushed State's cushion to 62-40.

The Senators attempted to chip away at their deficit, using an 8-2 scoring run over two minutes to trim the gap. It was a short-lived rally, as an Abram three and Jordan jumper followed by another Abram trey and then a Pittman layup, to help State again build a lead over 20 points at 74-50 with 12:29 left on the clock.

A steal and dunk from Pittman added some excitement to the frame and sent State to an 83-56 clip.

The Yellow Jackets neared the 100-point mark after a pair of layups from sophomore Tariq Brown brought the score to 98-75, and finally eclipsed triple figures on a Devin Perry three to reach 102-79 with just over three minutes left in the contest.

State finished at a 112-87 mark, featuring scores from freshmen Bunky Brown and Karrington Hill. It was Hill's first points of the season.

Perry finished the game with seven points.
