Jenkins Pulls in Season-High as State Dominates Monday over Glenville State

INSTITUTE, W.VA. – West Virginia State Men's Basketball dominated Monday in Walker Convocation Center, taking down Mountain East Conference opponent Glenville State 110-93.

The Yellow Jackets pick up their fourth-straight win and improve to 19-6 on the year and 14-4 in conference play, while the Pioneers slip to 9-13 overall and 6-12 MEC.

Graduate student Ernest Jenkins topped the squad with a season-high 24 points. Other double-digit scorers include classmate Glen Abram and sophomore Anthony Pittman with 15 points apiece, senior Bradlee Lewis with 13 points, and fellow graduate student Jeremiah Moore with 10.

WVSU finished the contest at an impressive 63% from the floor, going 44-for-69. Jenkins was stellar at 75% on a 9-for-12 clip.

The two squads traded points and leads for the first 12 minutes of the half, until State opened up on a 10-0 scoring drive to take the lead and build some cushion. The sequence featured a pair of shots from Jenkins and treys each from Pittman and Lewis.

State continued to add to their lead, after a pair of free throws from freshman guard Devin Perry and back-to-back Jenkins three pointers pushed the Yellow Jackets to a 15-point advantage at 50-35 with just two minutes remaining in the frame.

The Yellow Jackets closed out the half with a dunk and three from Abram, heading into the locker room with a 55-38 halftime lead.

Pittman lead the squad at halftime with 11 points, while Abram and Jenkins each posted 10. Lewis was narrowly behind with nine. Both he and Pittman were a perfect 3-for-3 from the arc.

State was stellar during the half, shooting 67% from the floor.

Back-to-back steals turned into points from a Jones layup and impressive Abram dunk opened the second half for WVSU with a 22-point cushion, 66-44.

A 6-2 run, delivered solely by Moore and featured a dunk, continued to help WVSU hold a commanding lead over the Pioneers.

A Lewis layup followed by a Jenkins jumper with 7:36 left on the clock widened the gap to 27 points at 97-70, which would have been a season-best for State's highest margin of victory had the game concluded.

The final five and a half minutes of play featured multiple scorers from the Yellow Jackets bench, including freshman Bunky Brown with five points, junior Jihad Shockley, who delivered two dynamic dunks, and sophomore Savion Marshall-Hamilton.
