INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- No. 18 West Virginia State took the field for the final regular season match at home against the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons, hoping for a victory, but the two teams battled to a 2-2 draw on Sunday. The Jackets fell behind late in the first half, scored two consecutive goals, then allowed a late equalizer on a scrum in front of the goal.Â
State remains undefeated at 14-0-2, 12-0-2 in the conference. Fairmont State picked up their fourth draw of the season and goes to 9-2-4, 9-2-3 in conference play.

Lisa Mann started most of the seniors to be honored in the first half. State was outshot 9-7 in the first half. Both teams put three shots on target. Fairmont State would sneak one past Galindo in the 34th minute, snapping the shutout streak at 339 minutes without a goal being scored by a Yellow Jacket opponent. At halftime, State trailed 1-0.
The second half saw several substitutes for State.

Billie Jean Davies, and
Sandra Linares all started the second half in leiu of
Cierra Savin,
Montserrat Alsina,
Delaney Day,
Juliana Campos Lima, and
Karem Rodrigues. Fairmont State wasn't ready for the massive swarm that the Yellow Jackets put on and just 79 seconds after the second half began, Herold fired a free kick shot past everyone and buried it in the bottom left corner while every Falcon defender just stood and stared hopelessly. In the 77th minute,
Fran Soares-Cupertino took a shot that rebounded off of Fairmont State's Taylor Kennedy and
Esther Dhiramo cleaned up the rebound to put the Jackets up 2-1 with less then 15 minutes to go. Fairmont State scored the equalizer at the 84:57 mark. Both teams had multiple open looks and chances to come away with the victory, but neither team capitalized.
Laura Galindo made two saves on the night. State took 22 shots as a team and put 10 on goal. Fairmont State took 14 shots and put just four on goal.Â

The Jackets hit the road for the next two games with a mid-week trip to Frostburg State on Wednesday with kick-off scheduled for 5:00 pm, followed by the second edition of the Kanawha River Derby against Charleston on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
