The Yellow Jackets held a two to one advantage in possession time and peppered the Pioneer goal with 10 shots, four on target before a foul called against Glenville in the 42
nd minute set up a free kick for
Naomi Waithira just to the left side of the penalty area. Waithira fired on goal and buried it past Pioneer goalkeeper Mikayla Brown to put West Virginia State up 1-0. That would be the score at halftime, but not before a dangerous counter-attack by Glenville State threatened that lead just before the horn.
