Game 1: WVSU 7, CU 5, Final/7

  • Senior Emily Moore picked up her first win of the season after three innings of relief while freshman Autumn Thompson earned the first save of her career.

Quick Recap

After Barrett reached base on a single to left field in the top of the first, Scruggs belted a homerun over the right field fence to give WVSU an early lead, 2-0. West Virginia State added to its lead in the top of the third with RBI-singles from Emma Ruth and Madison Rafuson, 4-0. Concord finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third and cut the lead to two runs, 4-2. A fielding error by the Mountain Lions in the top of the sixth allowed three unearned runs to score, 7-2. Kasey Murphy, Danielle Lebsock, and Emele Clark each drove in runs during the two-out rally. CU started a comeback in the bottom of the seventh and scored three runs, 7-5, to put pressure on the Yellow Jackets. Thompson was brought in for the save opportunity with the bases loaded and no outs. She forced two ground balls that resulted in the runner at home being thrown out before she got the last batter to pop up for the final out.
