INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University baseball team wrapped up its four-game series against Concord by splitting a twinbill on Monday afternoon at Cal Bailey Field. The Yellow Jackets successfully staved off a comeback in the first game, 8-7, before they were downed by the Mountain Lions in the second game, 9-3. West Virginia State ended up winning 3-of-4 games played in the series.

Game 1: WVSU 8, CU 7, Final/7
- Junior Michael Stone went 2-for-3 with a double and a homerun. He drove in one run and scored twice.
- Senior Matthew Kline went 2-for-2 and drew a walk. He was responsible for four runs with three runs batted in and a run scored.
- After nearly losing a five-run lead, senior Jacob Bradley was brought in to pitch. He gave up one  hit in 1.2 innings pitched and held Concord scoreless to earn his second save of the season.

The Mountain Lions scored first with an RBI-single in the top of the first, 1-0. In the bottom of third,
Michael Stone hit a leadoff homerun over the left field fence to tie it, 1-1. The bases were then loaded for Kline to drive in two runs with a line-drive single into left field, 3-1. The bases were loaded up again after a relief pitcher was brought in. This time,
Andrew Massey singled into the left center gap to drive in two more runs, 5-1. A sixth run was scored in the half inning when Massey got caught in a pickle and
Trey Junkins snuck home, 6-1. CU picked up two runs in the top of the fourth before WVSU tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fourth to maintain the five-run lead, 8-3. Concord found a run in the fifth inning and then three more in the sixth inning to nearly come all the way back, 8-7. Bradley was brought into the game when the seventh run was scored by CU. He forced a ground out that resulted in a double play to get out of the troublesome top of the sixth. In the top of the seventh, he gave up a single before he caused three consecutive ground outs to earn the save.

- The Yellow Jackets managed three runs on three hits.
- The Mountain Lions produced nine runs on 12 hits.

A solo shot to left field in the top of the first gave Concord the early edge, 1-0. A six-run third inning by CU put West Virginia State in the hole, 7-0. Two walks with a single in between loaded the bases for WVSU in the bottom of the fifth.
