Game 1: WVSU 6, WISE 3, Final/7
  • Junior pitcher Kasey Murphy earned her second win of the season with a complete game performance. She gave up seven hits in seven innings pitched and struck out five. Murphy also went 2-for-3 from the batter's box and scored a run to help herself to the win in the circle.
  • Right fielder Emele Clark and second baseman Lindsey Phares each knocked in two runs. Phares cranked a two-run homerun in the sixth. It was her second of the year.
  • Center fielder Danielle Lebsock and third baseman Sarah Barrett each had two hits in the first game. Lebsock went 2-for-3 with a double and crossed home plate twice.
Quick Recap
The first run of the game was scored in the top of the third when Clark singled into left field to bring home Lebsock. The Cavaliers responded with one run in the bottom of the same inning, 1-1. After back-to-back singles to start the fifth inning, Murphy was able to score on a wild pitch after advancing to third on an error. Lebsock was then able to score on a ground ball after advancing to third on the wild pitch, 3-1. Wise got one run back in the bottom of the fifth, 3-2. Phares belted a two-run bomb over the fence in left center in the next half inning, 5-2. Senior Kerston Kennedy pinch ran in the top of the seventh and rounded the bases with some small ball paired with a couple of passed balls, 6-2. The Cavaliers scored once in the bottom of the seventh, 6-3, before loading the bases with two outs. Murphy struck out the last batter to secure the win.

Game 2: WVSU 3, WISE 1, Final/7
  • Four Yellow Jackets collected two or more hits. Third baseman Sarah Barrett went 2-for-3 with a double and a sacrifice fly. She was responsible for driving in all three runs scored by WVSU.
  • Freshman hurler Autumn Thompson was lights out in the circle. She tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits and striking out seven.
Quick Recap
Emele Clark singled down the left field line to get on base in the top of the third before she stole second to get into scoring position. Barrett then sent her home with a base knock, 1-0. West Virginia State tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth, 3-0. With runners on second and third, Barrett fouled out to left field. Both baserunners were able to score thanks to a throwing error made by the left fielder after the catch. A leadoff solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh gave the Cavaliers their only run, 3-1. In the next three at bats, Thompson forced two ground outs with a fly out in between to finish off the game.
