NSTITUTE, W.Va. –  The West Virginia State University volleyball team swept Concord, 3-0, on Friday night at the Walker Convocation Center.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 2-0 in the Mountain East Conference while the Mountain Lions drop to 0-2 in the MEC with the loss.
Junior 
Jenna Dufresne led the Yellow Jackets in kills with 17 and added 10 digs to her season totals. Fellow junior 
Gabrielle Bullock followed suit with 11 kills and seven digs. Freshman 
Kiersten Eggleton was responsible for a game-high 24 assists while sophomore 
Jordan West accounted for a team-high 14 digs.
The first set was the closest of the three. West Virginia State quickly jumped out to a 6-2 lead after a series of attack errors by Concord that were bookended by kills from Bullock and Dufresne. CU went on a 6-4 run afterwards to put pressure on the Yellow Jackets and come within two points of tying the set, 10-8. WVSU picked up 12 of their next 15 points off kills and one service ace from 
Alex Darby to take the first set, 25-18.
Concord gained an early lead in the second set, 5-2. The Yellow Jackets responded with three consecutive kills and a 
Grace Martin service ace to regain the lead, 6-5. From that point forward, West Virginia State started to pick up momentum and went on a 19-5 run to claim the second set, 25-15.
By the third set, Concord was ready to pack up and head back to Athens. The Yellow Jackets went up 16-3 and knew that they had the match in the bag. West Virginia State won the third set by the largest margin, 25-11.
WVSU posted an impressive .396 hitting percentage while the Mountain Lions recorded a .085 hitting percentage from their side of the net.
The Yellow Jackets will travel to Davis & Elkins for their next game on Tuesday, Feb. 9. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
