ATHENS, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University men's basketball team hit the road for a Mountain East Conference (MEC) clash against Concord on Wednesday night and was defeated, 89-75. The Yellow Jackets struggled to get going in the first half and couldn't make up the deficit in the second half.
West Virginia State drops to 18-8 overall, 13-8 in the MEC with the defeat. Meanwhile, Concord improves to 11-16 on the season and 8-13 in league play with the victory.

John Dawson each scored 13 points to lead the Yellow Jackets. Junior forward
Jeremiah Moore was close behind with 12 points to go along with a team-high six rebounds. Senior guard
Frank Agyemang was the fourth Yellow Jacket to score in double-figures with 11 points.
West Virginia State was absolutely stymied in the first half of action. WVSU shot 31 percent from the floor while being outrebounded, 30-9, by the Mountain Lions. Conversely, Concord shot 46 percent from the field to gain a 20-point advantage, 49-29, by halftime.
The Yellow Jackets looked like a different team in the second half. They shot 52 percent from the field and 43 percent from behind the arc on their way to 46 points. Nevertheless, the Mountain Lions put up 40 points to make any chance of a comeback irrelevant.
West Virginia State has one more game left in the regular season. The Yellow Jackets will make the short trip across town to the University of Charleston on Saturday, Feb. 29 for a 4 p.m. tip.
