INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University Athletics announced a partnership with Catapult Sports on Friday afternoon. Catapult offers wearable technology, athlete management tools, and video analysis software aimed at providing data on athletes that can be used to improve performance.
WVSU will utilize Catapult's GPS-based wearable technology in workouts and competitions this season. Each vest provided by Catapult contains a lightweight GPS pod that reports metrics including, but not limited to, GPS positional data along with volume and intensity metrics such as heart rate, speed, distance, and load on the athletes to better monitor players' exertion over the course of a workout. The data collected is put through a comprehensive analytics software platform that helps inform performance decisions.
"In partnering with Catapult Sports, we are able to obtain data that aims to reduce the risk of injury, improve athlete performance, and enhance the overall student-athlete experience," said Athletic Director
Nate Burton. "We are excited about the partnership and look forward to putting it to use this Fall."
Catapult Sports currently works with more than 2,500 teams that include the likes of Clemson University, Duke University, the Dallas Mavericks, the Buffalo Bills, and English Premier League club Newcastle United.
Coaches and players alike praise the effectiveness of the products offered by Catapult Sports. User testimony consistently points to players taking more interest in their own performance, trainers being able to better assess injury causation, and coaches getting more information from practices and games to better analyze individual effort.
