Softball wins in 9 innings over UC 4-3 at MEC Tournament

Weather forced the West Virginia State University and University of Charleston Mountain East Conference softball game to be moved to Saturday morning. The game went into extra innings before the Jackets won 4-3 in 9 innings to advance in the MEC Tournament.

The Jackets trailed the Golden Eagles 3-0 going into the Bottom of the 7th inning. Emma Ruth started the inning off double to left field. the next batter Brittany Allison hit her 9th home run of the season and 27th career homerun (4th all time). State trailed 3-2 with two outs and Madison Rafuson singled to center. Danielle Lebsock hit her 2nd tripple of the season, scoring Rafuson from 1st base to tie the score at 3-3.

in the 9th inning Kasey Murphy singled with 1 out. With 2 outs Danielle Lebsock doubled to right center advancing Murphy to 3rd. The next batter Kayleigh Thompson scored Murphy with a  single down the left field line.

State advances in the winners bracket to play either Fairmont State University or West Liberty University at 2:00 PM Today.

If WVSU wins, they advance to Championship game on Sunday on 05/05/19 at 1:00 PM.

If WVSU loses they will play for a  3rd time today, playing immediately after this game at 4:00 pm in the loser bracket.
