Softball Hosts Concord & UVA WISE 3/29-3/30
The Top 3 teams in the Mountain East Conference Southern Division for softball square off this weekend as West Virginia State University hosts Concord University on Friday, March 29, 2019 and UVA-Wise on Saturday, March 30, 2019 in a pair of doubleheaders. The top 4 in each division advance to the MEC Tournament in Salem, Virginia held at the James Moyer Complex.

The Mountain Lions are 18-9 overall and 6-2 in the MEC. The Jackets are 4-11 vs the Mountain Lions going back to Spring 2015, including splitting a doubleheader earlier this month in Athens, WV.  WVSU won game 1, 6-1, behind the hitting of Brittany Allison 3 hits and Paige Scruggs hitting her then 2nd home run of the season. State lost game 2, 7-6, with the Mountain Lions winning in extra innings.  Concord has advanced to the MEC Tournament every season since 2014 and made the NCAA Tournament in 2015. 

The Cavaliers are 11-12 overall and 5-3 in the MEC. State is 11-13 all time with Wise. The Jackets had a doubleheader shut out of UVA Wise on St. Patrick's Day earlier this month. The Jackets scored 16 runs on 26 hits while the Pitching Staff of Emily Moore and Kasey Murphy limited the Wise to 8 hits on the day. The Cavaliers have made the MEC Tournament every year except in 2015 and advanced to the NCAA Regional in 2017.

Games Times for Friday are set for 3PM and 5PM with the Mountain Lions and Saturday are set for 2PM and 4PM with the Cavaliers.
