Football Welcomes 30 New Players to Yellow Jacket Family
Football Welcomes 30 New Players to Yellow Jacket Family
From West Virginia State University Head Football Coach John Pennington --

Today we are celebrating the young men that have committed to further their education at West Virginia State University!  We are grateful to all the recruits and their families for believing in our football program and our school.  Everyone at WVSU has provided incredible support -- the President, the Board of Governors, the Faculty, and Staff.

Our coaching staff has welcomed 30 newly committed student-athletes to our school including  21 who currently  over a 3.0 Grade Point Average.

We have nine commitments from West Virginia, so we were able to continue our focus on recruiting local talent. We ended up with seven recruits from Virginia,  six from Ohio, three from Kentucky, two from North Carolina and Georgia, and one from Maryland.

One of our main priorities every year is recruiting local talent from West Virginia and the surrounding states, and we were able to maintain a strong presence in our region.

We were able to address many pressing needs for the coming season.

Defensively we needed to bring in linebackers who were ready to play, cornerbacks who could add depth to our room, and defensive linemen that could make an impact.

We brought in two big-time linebackers and two defensive linemen who will have an immediate impact.

On offense we needed to add size and depth to our line, bring in a quarterback for the future and add some playmakers at the skill positions.

We brought in eight offensive linemen, including one transfer tackle.  We signed a big-time quarterback who is game ready, a transfer wide receiver who will help immediately, and multiple running backs  who can dominate in our league.

On special teams we needed to add some playmakers to the return game and we brought in two game-breaking returners.  We still need to find a placekicker but we have a couple guys who are close to signing with us in the near future.

All in all, this is the best recruiting class we have ever had here.

We were able to meet our immediate needs and build for the future.

Not only is the talent level better but the quality of student-athlete continues to improve.

That is a testament to our hard-working coaching staff and the faculty and staff at West Virginia State University!
