Athens, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University women's basketball team clinched a spot in the Mountain East Conference Tournament with an impressive 91-79 upset victory over Concord University on the road Thursday at the Carter Center.

Lyrin Hatcher jump shot at the 2:50 mark of the second quarter put the Yellow Jackets up for good in securing the win. State led 49-44 at Halftime and had their biggest lead of the game at 17 points (69-52) with 2:54 left in the third quarter on a Rebecca Burghardt lay-up.

WVSU was led by Charity Shears with 23 points, Anesha Harmon with 13 point and Kalia Cunningham with 12 points.  The Yellow Jackets hit the glass hard, out-rebounding Concord 57-43 on the night. Lyrin Hatcher grabbed nine of the boards to go along with eight points.

WVSU closes out the regular season against rival University of Charleston on Saturday, March 2, 2019. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
