Athen, W.Va. – West Virginia State University went right down to the wire before suffering a heartbreaking 75-71 loss to Concord University on the road in the Mountain East Conference Wednesday at the Carter Center. 

WVSU trailed by as many as 13 points, 29-16 at the 5:46 mark of the  first half,  but came back to take a lead 52-49 at the 12:12 mark in the second half on a long range three pointer by Ernest Jenkins. The Yellow Jackets would take the lead up to 7 points on the Mountain Lions of 61-54 with 8:43 remaining on a pair of free throws by Ernest Jenkins. The game would have 6 ties and 7 lead changes throughout. Trailing 71-69, State's Frank Agyemang hit a lay-up with 19 seconds remaining in the game to tie the score, but Concord's Jair Rodgers would hit a 3-pointer while being fouled at the buzzer to give Concord Univesity the game-winner.

5614Isaiah "Tuss" Noel paced State with 22 points and added nine rebounds, followed by Ernest Jenkins (19 points), Augustus "Gus" Stone (12 points), and Frank Agyemang (10 points).

State returns to the court to conclude the regular season to host rival University of Charleston on Saturday, March 2nd, 2019. It is Senior Day with tip off scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
