Softball goes 2-3 at February Freeze Out
DAY 1
Emily Thompson struck out 10 allowing 4 hits in 6 innings to pick up her second win of the 2019 season. She benefited from a 3 -run fourth inning, which the Jackets had 3 singles in a row by Madison Rafuson, Shian Meeks, and Danielle Lebsock , and error by the Owls 3rd baseman, giving the Jackets a 4-0 lead going into the 5th inning on the way to the 5-1 win over Southern Connecticut State University.

The Yellow Jackets opened the day with a 6-5 loss to Georgian Court University. WVSU had a 5-1 lead going into the top of the 5th inning, but allowed the lions to score 5 runs over the final 3 inning to give them the win.  The Jackets were lead offensively by Emily Moore with 2 hits and 2 rbi's. The losing pitcher was Kasey Murphy who had 8 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.


DAY 2
There was bad weather on Saturday, February 16, 2019. The Jackets was only able to play one of the scheduled games. WVSU beat Goldey Beacom College 10-2 in 5 innings. Emily Thompson got her 2nd win in as many days and improved her season record to 3-0. She pitched 4 inning and allowed only 1 run. The Yellow Jackets pounded out 10 hits in those five inning led by Paige Scruggs with 3 hits- 2 Runs Scored - 2 RBI, and Kayleigh Thompson with 2 Hits- 3 Runs Scored - 2 RBI, Danielle Lebsock with 1 home run - 2 RBI, and Brookelyn Hale and Zoey Carte had 1 hit and 2 RBI's. WVSU had a season high 6 stolen bases.


DAY 3
The Jackets opened up the day with Atlantic Regional Opponent Millersville University. WVSU had a 3-0 lead off a pair of Home Runs by Brittany Allison  (3 on Season / 21st career) and Kasey Murphy(3 on Season / 3rd Career). The Marauders loaded the bases on pitcher Kasey Murphy (1-2 record) in the bottom of the 7th and Millersville Hunter Little deposited an 0-2 pitch over the center field fence for the 5-3 win.

The second game of the day was against NCAA D2 World Series Runner up St. Anselm. The Hawks opened the scoring in the top of the 4th inning plating 2 runs on Sophomore Kat Stackrow double down the right field line. The Jackets would score in the bottom of the 4th inning when Paige Scruggs doubled in Brittany Allison who rached on an HBP and would tie the score in the 5th inning when Kayleigh Thompson singled up the middle scoring Danielle Lebsock,  who had opened up the inning with a double down the right field line. St. Anselm would then score in the top of the 7th, taking advantage of a walk, an HBP, and a Maggie Murphy double to score the winning run off WVSU Pitcher Emily Moore (1-1) on season. Moore struck out 4, allowing 5 hits in 7 innings.

WVSU will travel to the State of Tennessee next weekend Saturday February 23, 2019 and Sunday February 24, 2019. The Yellow Jackets will play a pair of doubleheaders against South Atlantic Conference member Carson Newman (9-0) on Saturday and Conference Carolinas member King University (0-0) on Sunday.
