Basketball Teams Travel North To Wheeling this Weekend
5594West Virginia State University Basketball Teams  travel to the Northern Panhandle on Saturday, February 16, 2019 to play Wheeling Jesuit University in a pair of matinee games. Both teams are looking to get back on the winning track after Thursday evening set backs to  West Liberty University.


The WVSU Women will look to sweep the Cardinal on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM for the 1st time since the 2012-13 season. The Yellow Jackets won the earlier contest on January 12, 2019 104-79. WVSU led from the opening tip. Since that game in mid January, WVSU is 2-8 and has been led by Charity Shears with 12.3 points per game, Lyrin Hatcher at 11.5 points per game, shooting 48 from the Field (43-88) and 9.6 rebounds, and Anesha Harmon  averaging 9.6 point per game, shooting 86% from Free Throw Line (25-29), and 36% from 3 point range (15-39).

5595The Yellow Jackets Men's Team will look for the fourth win on the road during 2018-19 on Saturday at 4:00 PM. WVSU won the earlier game 102-89 over coming a 42-40 half time deficit. Head Coach Bryan Poore's squad had five players in double digits lead by Pat Johnson-Agwu with 27 points. WVSU shot a season best 22-24 from the free throw line.

WVSU has been averaging 92.2 point per game in their last 6 games, with Johnson-Agwu averaging 22.0 point per game and 8 rebound followed by Augustus "Gus" Stone with 16.0 point per game, shooting 38% from 3 point field goal range (12-31) and 81% from the free throw line (22-27).
