West Virginia State University Athletics

The West Virginia State University Softball Team travels south to warm Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this Friday February 15, 2019 to play 6 games in the February Freeze Tournament. WVSU opened the Spring 2019 season two weeks ago with a pair of regional wins over regional opponents Shippensburg and Kutztown of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference in Pembroke, North Carolina.

All six opponents this weekend will be opening the 2019 season. They are Millersville University from the PSAC;  Georgian Court University and Goldey Beacom College out of the CCAC; and Southern Connecticut State University, NCAA East Region contestant Merrimack College, and 2018 NCAA D2 runner up St. Anselm College from the NE10. 

The Jackets opened the season out scoring scoring Shippensburg and Kutztown by a score of 35-10. WVSU Pitchers shut out the Raiders of Shippensburg in both games, allowing only allowing 5 hits in the 2 games with no runner advancing past 2nd base. (Emily Thompson, Kasey Murphy)  The Jackets scored 35 runs on 48 hits in the 4-games. WVSU had 7 team members with 4 or more hits lead by Brittany Allison with 8 hits (8 H - 2 DD- 1 hr - 8 RBI); Kasey Murphy 7 hits ( 7 H - 2 DD - 8 RBI - 1 SB); Danielle Lebsock (6H - 2 SB) and Brookelyn Hale (6 H - 5 Runs - 2 SB) with 6 hits; Kayleigh Thompson (5 H - 5 Runs - 2 SB) with 5 hits; and Emma Ruth (4H - 4 RBI) and Paige Scruggs with (4H - 3 RBI) 4 hits.

The February Freeze out start on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 10 am.
