BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University volleyball team traveled to the campus of Bluefield State on Tuesday night and returned home winners, 3-0. The Big Blues could only manage 15 points through three sets.
West Virginia State (15-11, 7-2 MEC) snapped a two-game slide with the win.
Sophomore J'Lana Stone led all players in the match with nine kills on 11 total attempts. After committing a single attack error, Stone's hitting percentage came out to .727. Freshman outside hitter Emily Davis accounted for 8.5 points with six kills, two service aces, and one block assist.
The Yellow Jackets claimed the first set 25-7, the second set 25-3, and the third set 25-5.
West Virginia State tallied 36 kills, compared to two kills in the entire match by Bluefield State.
The Yellow Jackets will face much tougher competition this weekend. On Friday, Nov. 1, they square up against Notre Dame College (18-9, 5-5 MEC) in a 7 p.m. contest at the Walker Convocation Center. The next day, WVSU will be challenged by Urbana (12-9, 8-1 MEC) at 5 p.m.
