Jackets Celebrate Senior Day With Sweep

The WVSU baseball team celebrated senior day Friday by sweeping a doubleheader from rival Charleston.

The Yellow Jackets rolled to an 11-0 win in the opener and then fought back from a 5-0 deficit to take game two 6-5.

In game one Ryan McDonough drove in four runs with a single and home run and Chris Jordan knocked in three with a single and double to lead the attack.

Meanwhile, on the mound, senior Colby Gainer was scattering six hits and tossing a shutout.

The nightcap did not start out as well for WVSU.

The Golden Eagles pulled out to a 5-0 lead after three and a half innings.

Then came the bottom of the fourth.
.
First Trevor Sampson drove in two runs with a long single to get the Yellow Jackets on the board.

A couple of batters later Jonathan Cline tied the game up with a three-run blast over the left field fence.

Sampson put the finishing touch on the rally with a solo home run to leadoff the bottom of the sixth.

The squads square off Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Charleston to close out the series and the regular season.
