Matt Harrison drove in seven runs with a double and three home runs,
Colby Gainer and Ken Daniels turned in strong performances on the mound, and the defense played error-less ball Friday.
The result was WVSU dominating a doubleheader against visiting West Virginia Wesleyan improving to 23-14 on the season and 13-9 in Mounaineast Conference.
The Yellow Jackets rolled to a 6-1 win in the opener and then exploded to take game two 12-1.
Harrison got the day off to a good start by connecting for a three-run blast over the left field fence in the first inning. The sophomore first baseman added a solo shot in his next at bat in the third.
That was plenty of offensive support for Gainer who allowed just five hits, walked none, and struck out six while going the distance.
Harrison gave WVSU an early lead again in the nightcap.
The Nitro High product drove in the game's first run with a first inning double.
He followed that with his third home run of the day on an 0-2 pitch in the third, a two run shot over straight away center.
Trevor Sampson drove in two more runs with a double down the third base line and
Brandon Wright drove in another two with a single to give WVSU six runs in the third and a 7-1 lead.
Andrew Stone and
Ryan McDonough joined in with RBI singles later while
Jared Hunt knocked in two and Sampson added another RBI to round out the scoring.
Meanwhile
Kenneth Daniels was scattering seven hits and striking out six to get the complete game victory.
The squads square off again at 1 p.m. Saturday 04/21/18 in another MEC doubleheader.
