MEC Basketball Tournament Tips-Off Wednesday, WVSU Takes Court at 8:15 p.m.
The Mountain East Conference Basketball tournament tips-off Wednesday at the Charleston Civic Center.

The early session is made up of two women's contests with the men taking the court in the evening session.

The Yellow Jackets close out the day with an 8:15 p.m. contest against West Virginia Wesleyan.

"Tournament time is always an exciting time of year," Yellow Jacket Head Coach Bryan Poore said. "The stakes are raised as it is time to survive and advance or pack your uniforms away for the year. "

WVSU enters the game as the #8 seed with the Bobcats sitting at #9. The squads split two regular season meetings with each defending their home court.

"Tomorrows game will be a definite contrast in styles of play and I think who ever has the tempo to their liking will come out on top," Poore said. "We will need to attack their zone and make some shots to set up our press in order for us to be successful."

The winner faces #1 seed West Liberty in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Friday.

That may not be as daunting a task as it seems as the Hilltoppers have been the top seed three times in the last four years and did not win the tournament in any of those years.

The Yellow Jackets are led by 6-foot-5 junior forward Pat Johnson-Agwu. The Bowie, Maryland, native is averaging teams highs of 18.9 points a game, 7.4 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and a .597 shooting percentage

Junior guard Ernest Jenkins and senior Robert Fomby have both averaged 12.4 points with Fomby second on the squad in rebounding averaging 7.2. Jeremiah Moore, a 6-6 freshman, is averaging 10.8 points and 5.7 rebounds.
