Jacket Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader
    The Yellow Jackets swept a doubleheader from Clarion Friday in baseball action in Glenville.

    WVSU scored twice in the bottom of the third and the fourth to take the opener 4-2. The Jackets had to fight their way back to win the nightcap 2-1.

    The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third in the opener. WVSU bounced back right away with two runs in the bottom of the frame to tie it up.

    Christopher Jordan, Trevor Sampson, and Ryan McDonough started the fourth inning off with a double, triple, and single respectively to provide the final margin.

   Starting hurler Hunter Bradley scattered five hits and did not allow an earned run in five innings of work. Matthew Washington and Tyrel Panter followed with each tossing a shutout inning.

    Sampson and Brandon Wright each had two hits in game one.

    Clarion took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth but WVSU rallied to tied the contest in the bottom of the seventh when Sampson drove in Wright with a single to right field. Trayvis Patterson ended the game with a bases-loaded single up the middle in the 10th with no outs.

   Yellow Jacket pitchers Ken Daniels, Jonathan Murphy, Andrew Stone, Kip Brewer, and Washington combined to allow just one run on six hits over 10 innings.


    The squads face off again at 11 a.m. Saturday.
