The West Virginia State University Athletic Department is excited to roll out a new, distinctive wordmark as part of its brand identity, WVSU Athletic Director Nate Burton announced Wednesday.
Stinger will continue to be the primary mark for the Yellow Jackets.
"It is common for athletic departments to refresh their brand, and we felt now was the time to rejuvenate the WVSU Athletics word mark," said Athletic Director Nate Burton. "The change provides us a contemporary look and will deliver consistency across our sports and student-athletes while representing WVSU."
Torch Creative designed the new mark. Torch Creative has considerable experience in logo design, having worked with LSU, Michigan State University, and Rice University.
The process for creating the new word mark included input from coaches, administrators, and students, as well as marketing and communications for the college. Elements of the new mark include stripes in the "V" that reflect the marking of a yellow jacket and the length of the "V" represents the stinger.
The new mark will be phased in, replacing the existing mark at a number of athletic department facilities as well as apparel, promotional material and equipment. In addition, apparel with the new logo will be available to purchase through the University Bookstore and online.
