The Yellow Jackets passed a test Saturday by winning 71-66.

They dominated the game against visiting rival Charleston for almost the entire day.

The Yellow Jackets held a 28-25 lead at halftime and 54-49 after the third period.

Actually WVSU ended up leading for exactly 84.5 percent of the game and by as many as 18 points in the third quarter.

    Then it was test time.

The Golden Eagles gradually caught up and made it interesting by pulling into the lead at 63-62 with 3:07 to play.

That put the Yellow Jackets in the position of answering sports' version of a one question, true-false test.

After seeing the lead they had held for so long disappear the could get down on themselves and fold -- or -- they could fight back.

Of course the final score gives away the answer.

WVSU responded by outscoring Charleston 9-3 down the stretch, going five-for-five at the free throw line along the way, as seniors Aurreshae Hines and Jasmine Davis simply took over.

After Alexandra Jackson hit a jumper to give the Jackets the lead back with 2:36 remaining Hines accounted for a three point play, two more free throws, a steal and a rebound while Davis contributed the final two free throws and a rebound.

Davis finished with 25 points and Hines 21.

WVSU plays next at Notre Dame on Wednesday before returning to Walker for a 2:00 p.m. contest against Urbana Saturday.
