WVSU Women Close Out Road Schedule With Win

The WVSU women's basketball team will start a season ending four game home stand next week on a high note.

Led by outstanding performances from senior Shealyn Shafer and junior Shae Hines the Yellow Jackets won 86-72 at West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in their final road game of the regular season.

After four ties and five lead changes in the early going WVSU went on an 8-0 run to finish the first quarter and take a 23-16 lead. The Jackets stretched that margin to as many as 14 points in the second quarter and the Bobcats never recovered.

Shafer finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds to record her eighth double-double of the season and third in the last four games. Hines added 18 points and seven assists. Jasmine Davis contributed 15 points.

The Yellow Jackets return home for a 5:30 p.m. meeting with Fairmont State Thursday. The Falcons enter theatcontest one game ahead of WVSU in the latest conference standings.
