Hines and Shafer Lead WVSU Women to 90-64 Win

Box Score Junior point guard Shea Hines poured in 27 points and dished out seven assists while senior Shealyn Shafer posted a double-double finishing with 14 hard-earned points inside and pulling down 18 rebounds as WVSU rolled to a 90-65 win Tuesday night.

With the win the Yellow Jackets remain in a three-way tie for second place in the conference with 4-1 league mark. Their next contest is at home against conference leading Wheeling Jesuit which is currently 5-0 in MEC play.

It looked like WVSU was going to have a tough time staying in that second place group as West Liberty led by as many as nine-points twice in the opening half. The Yellow Jackets trailed until tying the score 31 seconds before halftime and did not take a lead until Tatyana Reynolds sank a free throw to give WVSU a 41-40 lead with five seconds to go before halftime.

After scoring the final four points of the first half the Yellow Jackets came out of the lockerroom and scored the first 14 points of the second half to take control.

Sydney Bates added 15 points and Jordan Miller passed out five assists in a winning effort.
