Jackets Host Cavaliers in Homecoming Contest Saturday

      The Yellow Jackets look to get back on the winning track this week when they host the University of Virginia at Wise in a 1:30 p.m. Mountain East Conference gridiron matchup.

       If this year's meeting is anything like the last couple of outings involvingt hese two teams watch out.

       The last time they played in Institute the Cavaliers held on for a 16-13 win when WVSU missed a 26-yard field goal attempt with 3:39 to play.

       Last season at Wise the Cavaliers jumped out to a 28-0 first quarter lead but the Yellow Jackets rallied for a wild 52-45 victory.

       UVa-Wise is coming off its first win of the season, a 26-17 upset of Glenville State. Look for Cavalier red-shirt freshman quarterback Brycen Lee to air it out after throwing 51 passes a week ago for 346 yards while the WIse ground game managed just 39 yards.

        WVSU counters with the second-leading passing game in the MEC featuring junior signal caller Matt Kinnick and receivers Quinton Gray and Akil Washington which will be facing a Cavalier defense that ranks last in both pass and scoring defense. The Yellow Jackets also feature junior running back Juawan Etheredge who is third in the league with an average of 89.8 yards a game on the ground.

         It will be Homecoming for WVSU and game time is 1:30 p.m. at Dickerson Stadium.
