Box Score  Â
The WVSU football team lost 26-7 Thursday night to intra-county rival University of Charleston at Laidley Field.
After the squads showed some early nerves and lost the ball on a fumble on each of their first possessions the Yellow Jackets took a 7-0 lead just over five minutes into the game when
Matt Kinnick hit
Akil Washington with a 10-yard scoring strike. The score capped an eight play, 82-yard drive with the big play a 61-yard catch and run from Kinnick to
Quinton Gray.
Charleston kicked a field goal midway through the period and then pulled into the lead with a touchdown on the final play of the opening quarter.
The Golden Eagles kept the ball on the ground for most of the game rushing for 298 yards.
  Â
Juawan Etheredge picked up 127 yards on 20 carries to lead WVSU.Â
Kinnick returned to the starting lineup after missing last week's game due to an injury. He finished 14-34 for 184 yards, the touchdown to Washington and two interceptions.
