Fall 2016 marked the third consecutive semester the number of West Virginia State University student-athletes obtaining a grade point average of 3.0 or better increased.
Out of 238 WVSU student-athletes there will be 118Â acknowledged as a Yellow Jacket Scholar-Athlete.
The Yellow Jacket Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes student-athletes who achieve a 3.0 grade point average for a semester. The 118 student-athletes will be recognized at halftime of a future men's basketball game.
This is the first semester this designation had been awarded.
"From Spring 2016 to Fall 2016, 10 percent more of our student-athletes achieved a 3.0 for the semester," WVSU Athletic Director
Nate Burton said. "The continued improvement in the classroom is a tribute to the effort our student-athletes commit toward their academic pursuits."
"The success in the classroom is also a credit to the priority placed on academic achievement by our coaches and the incredible support our student-athletes receive from the University's faculty and staff."

- Women's Tennis – 3.52
- Softball – 3.35
- Volleyball – 3.2
