Box Score The Yellow Jacket volleyball squad took the first two sets by scores of 25-22, and 25-15 over visiting Concord Friday night in the Walker Convocation Center and then fought off a Mountain Lion comeback attempt for a 3-1 win.
Concord jumped out to a 24-14 lead in the third set but the Yellow Jackets rallied to save six set points before falling 25-20.
The fourth set found the squads slugging it out on every point with WVSU holding a slight edge throughout.
Clinging to a tenuous 18-16 advantage the Yellow Jackets turned up their intensity to capture seven of the final eight points and win 25-17 with
Edwina Barnett closing out the match with a kill off an
Allison Tumey assist.
Barnett had a big night for the Yellow Jackets with 23 kills followed by
Samantha Scripter with 13 and
Rebekah Baldwin with 10.
Tumey picked up 50 assists with
Brooke Cieslewski recording 32 digs with Scripter adding 23 and Barker 13.
WVSU wraps up its home schedule Saturday at 1 p.m. against UVa-Wise.
