The Yellow Jacket hosted the first women's cross country meet in the short history of the program Wednesday and came away with a third place finish just five points behind Bluefield State for second.
The University of Charleston took the top three individual spots in the 5 kilometer race on its way to winning the event.
Salem International was fourth.
DeYahnna Styles took eighth and
Rachel Ward ninth to lead WVSU, which actually ran a slightly better cumulative time than Bluefield (2:03.204 - 2:03.486).
Laura Szorenyi, Brianna Hawkins, and
Amiea Summers all scored for the Jackets.
The squad completes its season in the Mountain East Conference championship meet on Saturday, October 24, in Bridgeport.
