Box Score The Yellow Jacket women's basketball squad saw an early lead against visiting Seton Hill turn into a 14 point second half deficit Friday night in the opening game of the Wingate by Wyndham Conference Challenge in the Walker Convocation Center.
But instead of throwing in the towel the Jackets fought back.
A 3-pointer from the corner by junior LaCorsia Metts with 6:06 to play erased that deficit and tied the score at 57-57.
A driving lay-up by Metts, a put back by sophomore
Shealyn Shafer and a free throw by
Deyahnna Styles gave WVSU a 62-58 lead with 3:43 remaining.
The visitors regrouped and forced the Yellow Jackets into turnovers on their next three possessions though and ended up taking a 68-65 decision as a last second WVSU attempt fell just long of the rim.
Neither team shot very well in the season opener for both with Seton Hill hitting 39.7 percent and WVSU 38 from the floor.
The Yellow Jackets' 44-to-31 rebounding edge was offset by the visitors' committing 14 fewer turnovers, 26-12.
Freshman
Autumn Ringen led WVSU with 18 points while
Alexus Hobbs notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Styles added 12 points and haned out four assists.
