Yellow Jackets Fall to Notre Dame

Box Score

There were three different games played Saturday afternoon at Dickerson Stadium.
A very close first quarter, a second period won by visiting Notre Dame, and a second half won by the Yellow Jackets.
Unfortunately they added up to a 42-16 WVSU loss.
"That's the way football goes," WVSU Head Coach Jon Anderson said. "It's a game of ups and downs."
The Falcons jumped out to an early 14-0 lead but the Yellow Jackets answered with 5:24 remaining in the first quarter when senior quarterback Tyler Seals hit Shanin Bennefield open in the left side of the endzone for a 10-yard touchdown.
After the ensuing kickoff the Jackets' Paul Hammer intercepted a Notre Dame pass and took it to the Falcons' 22 putting WVSU in good position to cut into the deficit further. But Josh Reuber's 35-yard field goal attempt was blocked.
Notre Dame added a touchdown early in the second period to go up 21-7 and then added three scores in the final eight minutes of the half.
"The offense moved the ball and scored some points," Anderson said."Our defense needed to step up and give us a complete game."
Seals hit Joe Thornton for an 18-yard score in the third period and Reuber hit a 25-yard field goal in the fourth to account for all of the scoring after the break as the Yellow Jacket defense tightened up.
Senior running back Josh Wade had a career high 82 yards, including a team season best 35 yard carry.
"He just runs extremely hard," Anderson said. "Once he gets into the secondary it's going to take a couple of guys to bring him down."
Seals completed 20-of-34 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns and Hammer added a second interception.
