Yellow Jackets Drop 31-9 decision to Charleston

    The WVSU football team dropped a 31-9 decision to visiting Charleston Saturday afternoon at Lakin Field.

    The squads battled to a 0-0 standoff after one period before the Golden Eagles put together a pair of drives to take a 14-0 halftime lead.

     Freshman kicker Josh Reuber hit a 38-yard field goal to get WVSU on the board in the third period.

   The Yellow Jackets' Wenly Belliard recovered a Golden Eagle fumble on the Charleston 31 yard line and freshman quarterback D'Von Dorsey completed a pass and did the rest with his legs on a 9-yard touchdown scramble to account for the rest of the Yellow Jackets' points..

    Senior quarterback Tyler Seals completed 16 of 28 passes for 155 yards.

    Defensively Will Merritt kept the Yellow Jackets' interception streak alive by picking off a pass at the WVSU 15 yard line with 6:09 to play in the first half.

   The defensive secondary had picked off at least one opponent pass in every game this season.

   The Yellow Jackets travel to the University of Virginia at Wise next Saturday with game time 1:00 p.m.
