Coach Powell brings a wealth of football experience with him to WVSU.
He began his coaching career at Texas A&M in 2006 as a graduate assistant working with the offensive line. He earned a master’s degree in Education Administration before moving on to assistant coaching stints at Centre College, Southwest Baptist University and, most recently, Seton Hill University.Â
While at Texas A&M, coached three All Big 12 lineman, two which were drafted in the NFL Draft. At Centre College, Powell coached 13 All SCAC offensive lineman, three of which earned All South Region honors, and one offensive lineman that was a two time All American. He also coached one All MIAA lineman at SBU.
Powell had an outstanding college playing career at Texas Christian University earning first team All-Conference and All-American status while participating in four bowl games.  In 2002, Powell was a candidate for the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the top collegiate lineman. After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from TCU, Powell played two seasons in the National Football League followed by two more in the Canadian Football League.
He and his wife, Rachel, will be residing in teh area with children Jaden and Ellison.
