INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- Yellow Jackets men delivered a dominant Singles performance in a 6-1 victory before the women dropped a 5-2 decision at Frostburg State.
In the men's match, West Virginia State bounced back from a slow start in doubles to take control in singles play and roll past Frostburg State. After dropping the first two doubles courts, the tandem of
Heinrich Lindeque and
Patchara Suklian secured the lone doubles win, but the Yellow Jackets responded emphatically in singles by winning all six flights.
Forkane Lebdi battled through a three-set thriller at No. 1 singles, while
Niclas Naedele, Suklian, and Lindeque each earned straight-set victories to swing momentum decisively.
Facundo Campana Urcia added a hard-fought three-set win, and
Ben Steinhoefel closed out the sweep in singles as WVSU showcased its depth and resilience to secure the convincing team victory.
On the women's side, West Virginia State showed flashes of competitiveness but fell short in a 5-2 loss to Frostburg State. The Yellow Jackets picked up a doubles win at No. 2 behind
Daniela Cruzado Fretel and
Talia Nichols, and carried that momentum into singles where
Amanda Menendez Thomasson cruised to a straight-set victory at No. 2. Nichols also delivered a strong performance at No. 4 singles, grinding out a three-set win, but Frostburg State proved too consistent across the remaining courts. Despite the final score, WVSU's individual efforts—particularly in the middle of the lineup—highlighted the team's ability to compete deep into matches.
Men will meet with Bluefield State on Sunday, April 19, then both squads have a date with rival UC at Marvin D. Mills Tennis Complex Tuesday, April 21!
