Men's Tennis Pulls Out a 4-3 Victory, While Women's Falls Short 5-2 Against Mount Olive

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State split a pair of matches against Mount Olive on Friday in Hilton Head, S.C., as the Yellow Jackets men's team secured a narrow victory while the women's squad dropped a competitive contest.


Despite strong efforts, the Yellow Jackets Women's team lost a 5-2 matchup with the Trojans. WVSU picked up a doubles victory at No. 2 as Daniela Cruzado Fretel and Talia Nichols teamed up for a 6-1 win. In No. 3 singles, Fretel battled back in a three-set victory. Carlota Pamies Petit added another point for WVSU at No. 6 singles, also winning a tightly contested three-set match.


West Virginia State Men's earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Mount Olive behind a strong singles performance. After dropping two-of-three in doubles action the Yellow Jackets secured key points in singles as Forkane Lebdi won at No. 1 singles in straight sets. Heinrich Lindeque followed with a solid win at No. 4 singles, while Ben Steinhoefel controlled his match at No. 5 singles to give WVSU momentum. Wacil El Hanafi sealed the team victory with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles, helping the Yellow Jackets edge Mount Olive in the tight matchup.

Men's and Women's both will be back in action Sunday, March 15 at Barton in Wilson, NC.
