FROSTBURG, Md. -- West Virginia State men's basketball delivered a strong second-half effort but couldn't fully overcome a difficult opening stretch, falling 95–79 to Frostburg State in Mountain East Conference play Wednesday night.
After a cold-shooting first half left the Yellow Jackets facing a 49–24 deficit at the break, West Virginia State regrouped and responded with one of its most productive offensive halves of the season. WVSU scored 55 points in the second half, shooting better than 54 percent from the floor while consistently attacking the paint and pushing the tempo.
Trey Harris led the charge with a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double, finishing strong at the rim and getting to the free-throw line throughout the night.
Jaylen Subject added 14 points, while
Camren Wilkes provided a spark off the bench with 13 points.
Aymeric Toussaint was efficient inside, contributing 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
The Yellow Jackets controlled the interior offensively, scoring 50 points in the paint, and outscored Frostburg State 55–46 after halftime. WVSU also finished with 42 rebounds and 29 bench points as the lineup rotation paid dividends in the second period.
Frostburg State's early momentum and perimeter shooting proved decisive, as the Bobcats connected on 14 three-pointers and converted turnovers into points during the opening half.
West Virginia State moves to 5–16 overall and 2–12 in MEC play and will look ahead as conference action continues with a home matchup against Fairmont State on Saturday, February 7th in the Walker Convocation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
