INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State University Head Women's Soccer Coach Brandon Slewa has stepped down to accept a position as Assistant Women's Soccer Coach at a NCAA Division I school, effective immediately. Slewa led the Yellow Jackets for two seasons, compiling a 27-10-6 overall record, including a 20-5-5 mark in Mountain East Conference play.
During his tenure, Slewa guided WVSU to continued success on the pitch. The Yellow Jackets captured their first Mountain East Conference Tournament championship in 2024 with a 2-1 win over Charleston (W.Va.), earning the program's second NCAA postseason berth. State advanced to the NCAA Atlantic Regional semifinals with a 2-1 victory over IUP before falling to top-seeded and host Shepherd last season.
"I want to thank Brandon for his commitment to our student athletes and his passion for developing young women through the game of soccer," said WVSU Athletic Director
David Hicks. "Brandon elevated the WVSU women's soccer program to new levels during his tenure, culminating with last year's MEC Championship. While I am disappointed for WVSU and our student athletes, I am excited for Brandon and his family with the opportunity he has in front of him."
Details regarding the program's leadership moving forward will be announced at a later time.
