BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Kyle Waters earned his second Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honor this season, presented by The Health Plan, the league office announced on Monday. Waters previously earned a Co-Player of the Week award on March 31. Waters was honored for his impressive all around display on the baseball diamond in this past weekend's sweep of then-first place Concord.
Waters, a senior infielder, played a key role in West Virginia State's four-game sweep of MEC South Division leader Concord, delivering consistent production at the plate throughout the series. The Churchton, Md., native went 5-for-13 with six runs scored, a double, a triple, and three home runs. He drove in seven RBI, drew two walks, and finished the weekend with a 1.308 slugging percentage. Waters capped off game two with a walk-off home run, then added a 2-for-3 performance in game three with two runs, five RBI, a home run, and a triple.
Defensively, Waters contributed to six double plays across the series, including two each in games two and three. A graduate of Southern High School and transfer from Chesapeake Community College, Waters' all-around performance helped the Yellow Jackets strengthen their position in the MEC South playoff race.
