WHEELING, W.Va. -- West Virginia State fell to Glenville State 87-73 in the quarterfinals of the Mountain East Conference tournament at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va., concluding its season. The Yellow Jackets led after the first quarter but were outscored in the second half as Glenville State pulled away.
West Virginia State was led by
Baylee Goins, who scored a team-high 13 points while adding four rebounds and three steals.
ZZ Russell, in her final game in a Yellow Jacket uniform, followed with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including two three-pointers.
Kenly Rogers contributed 11 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc.
Hallie Bailey added nine points and eight rebounds, while
Shanley Woods ended her final game with WVSU with eight points. Senior
Emyah Fortenberry led WVSU on the boards with seven rebounds, and
Emily Anthony recorded a team-high three assists​

West Virginia State started strong in the first quarter, jumping out to an early lead. The Yellow Jackets established a 13-point advantage with just over five minutes remaining in the quarter.
Ashley Kerekes opened the scoring with a three-pointer, followed by another from
Shanley Woods to push WVSU ahead. Glenville State responded with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit, but WVSU maintained a 20-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Glenville State tied the game at 34 by halftime, outscoring WVSU 17-14 in the second quarter. The Pioneers went on a 9-0 run late in the period to erase WVSU's lead. West Virginia State struggled offensively, shooting just 33.3% from the field in the quarter.
Shanley Woods and
Kenly Rogers each hit three-pointers to keep WVSU close, but turnovers allowed Glenville State to close the gap.
The third quarter proved decisive, as Glenville State outscored WVSU 29-20. The Pioneers took their first lead of the game early in the quarter and later extended it to as many as nine points. WVSU briefly regained a four-point lead at the 8:54 mark, but Glenville State answered with a 7-0 run. The Pioneers shot 55% from the field in the quarter and capitalized on second-chance opportunities.
Glenville State maintained control in the fourth quarter, outscoring WVSU 24-19. The Pioneers built a 20-point lead with just over three minutes remaining. The Yellow Jackets made a late push with a 6-0 run, but it was not enough. WVSU finished the game shooting 35.1% overall and 31.4% from three-point range. Glenville State shot 49.3% from the field and outrebounded WVSU 45-39.
West Virginia State finishes their season with an 18-13 record while Glenville State improves to 19-11. While State will graduate career players and players who achieved career milestones, they will look to rebuild in the offseason and make another push for an MEC title.
